okay, So i am in the process of writting a book about myself lol. Not so much about myself, but about life growing up in rural Newfoundland. This is just a few pages from it.. there from seperate sections, so they dont really match. But anyways enjoy, let me know what ya think. Take a closer look at the life and times of Lori Hearn
I remember as if it were yesterday. Down on the beach by the warf. Collecting old "junk" people had discarded on the beach. Pots and pans', an old sink faucet, rotting vegatables. This junk soon became our treasures, and we let our imaginations run wild. In a single afternoon, we had created a make shift house on the beach, in which we played for hours. We became runaways from the law, friends living in an apartment, pirates on a tropical island. Whatever we dreamed of, we became.
I remember one time, our friend Colin came down onto the beach and seen us playing with our treasures. He took up an old frying pan and began to beat it of a rock. By the time I got hold of it, it was in ruins. I quickly came up with a lie. Telling him that the frying pan was one we got of my nan, who lived very close by, and that we had to return it when we were done playing. His face turned to terror as he dropped the fying pan and began running up the beach. Looking at the frying pan, and seeing it demolished, set me of into one of my spurts, the "Sadie" spurt, as my family liked to call it.
Sadie was my great grandmother, and they say our personalities were identical. (Strong, loud, easily upset and crooked.).
Growing up I always had someone to play and hang out with. My twin sister, Lisa. Who coincidentally had the personality of our other great grandmother , Mary. (Quiter, soft hearted, kind.). That was just one of differences. We were what you called, feturnal twins. Not much of a resemblance, with completely different personalities. We were just like, day and night. Completely different, but dependent on each other.
We were born on the 21st of November, 1990. Almost three months early. We lay inside our mothers stomach, in the shape of the letter "T". (For twins, our mom use to say.)
Lisa, of course, was positioned the correct way, while I was lying horizantally across the stomach, at the very top. At 3:00 pm on the 21st of November, Lisa decided she was ready to come in to this world. At 3:09 pm, the world welcomed Lisa Ann.
Even before I was born, I was the stubborn one. I was not ready to come out, I wanted to stay in. I would have stayed in there for another 9 months. But no. 45 minutes later the world welcomed me, Lori Ann Hearn, by "C-section".
We were the youngest of the family, and were welcomed by an older brother, Jamie, and an older sister Jennifer. We were, and still are to this day known as "The Twins".
We weighed in at 3lbs each, and could fit in the palm of a hand. (I wish I could do that today). We were expected to be in the Hospital till our orignal due date, which was at the end of January. We were strong though, and on Christmas eve 1990, we arrived home.
As I am sure everyone can account for, true friendship is hard to come by. However I was lucky to recieve it. When I try to think back to my earliest memories Amanda is always there. Amanda Linehan is my one and only best friend. Now, don't get me wrong, I have alot of other very close friends, but Amanda is at the top. This girl knows more about me then anyone. Including my whole family. We were friends since birth, although she is one year older then me. We are very similar, which is intresting since similar personalites offten clash, and oppsites atrack. It was different with us though. Being so similar drew us together.
I can remember if I ever fought with mom or dad, or my sibilings, I would run out in to the marsh, and go straight to her house. Soaking wet, full of bog, I would show up at her house and just cry to her. I wouldn't even speak, just cry. She would just sit there and say nothing untill I felt better. I would do the same for her. One time when she was upset, I was not home. After running through the marsh to my house, and seeing I was not there, she turned around, went back to the marsh and sat on our tree. A tree exactly half way between our houses', with a big branch drooping out over a stream. Very pretty. That is just the way it was. If someone was looking for me, and I was not at the house, I was at Amandas'.
If I wrote down all the memories Amanda and I had, it would fill a "Harry Potter" book and believe me, I know how big they are. I will, however tell you some of my favorites.
When we were in grade 7 and 8, (I think), we went to K-mart with Amanda's mom Paula. Now Paula went on doing her shopping and Amanda and I became bored following her up and down the ailes, so we drifted away from her. Now, I might as well let you all know, me and Amanda use to get in some sticky situation all of the time, and that day in K-mart was no different.
We went around the store looking for something to do and all we found was a deserted shopping cart. A greenlight comes on in Amanda's head, and she tells me to get in the cart. No problem. I climbed up over the side of that cart and and squeezed in, and believe me it was a tight squeeze. Amanda started wheeling me around the store, and we were really drawing a lot of attention to ourselves, an overweight seventh grader stuck in a shopping cart with another one pushing. To make matters worse, the cart had a loose wheel which was squeeking and going all over the place. That never phazed us though. We tucked on, going up and down the ailes, having a very good time indeed. We got told off a couple of times by the store people, but who cares? We didn't listen to Paula when she told us to get out, we were hardly going listening to another person.
